PIPE BURSTING
Trenchless pipe replacement, Pipe Bursting, is a method of replacing old pipe with new pipe of the same or larger inner diameter. Stewart's uses Vermeer's Hammerhead Mole pneumatic pipe-bursting tools to follow and burst existing lines while simultaneously pulling in a new product. Normal surface disruption is minimized because the tools follow existing utilities. The new pipe follows the path of the old one and pushes the broken pieces into surrounding soil. Hammerhead Mole pneumatic boring tools burst all types of pipe, including concrete, iron, asbestos, steel, plastic and clay. We can burst pipes from 1" in diameter and up, and are capable of upsizing the existing line to increase its capacity. Benefits of pipe-bursting: Bursting reduces the potential for damage to adjacent utilities. The traditional dig and replace method is eliminated and excavation is minimized to preserve the landscape. Just two small pits are necessary, an access and exit pit. The equipment is designed to facilitate extraction of burst heads through manholes to reduce the need for receiving pits. Bursting is less labor intensive, therefore, it costs less and takes less time to complete. Sewer service can usually resume the same day.
